U2’s lesser-streamed song hailed as ‘one of the all-time’ greats

Lesser-streamed songs by legendary band U2 have been praised by listeners as some of their “all-time” greatest tracks.

The Bono-fronted band is tipped to release new material later this year and has so far dropped two EPs of fresh music. The Easter Lily and Days of Ash EPs dropped earlier this year, and fans are hopeful of an album announcement to follow. Whether U2 follows up their two EP projects with a full-blown album and tour remains to be seen, but in the meantime, fans have been discussing the group’s most underrated efforts. Listeners took to the r/U2 subreddit to share their favourite songs by the band, with some believing a Zooropa hit is one of their very best works, but has not received the credit it deserves.

A fan searched for the least-streamed U2 songs and wrote: “I was looking for the least popular U2 songs, hoping to hear something fresh in one of them; a lyric or guitar piece that went unappreciated all these years. The best synthesis of these tracks I could find is below: I didn’t include remixes, reworked songs or live versions and relied only on songs found on streaming services. Obviously, there are many more that exist on subscriber gifts, RSD recordings, bootlegs and deluxe sets that aren’t available on the streaming platforms. Is this a fair list?”

A full list of the least listened to songs from U2 can be found below.

  • Drunk Chicken / America
  • J. Swallo
  • Is That All?
  • The Refugee
  • Elvis Presley And America
  • Some Days Are Better Than Others
  • Miami
  • The Playboy Mansion
  • Cedars Of Lebanon
  • Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
  • Unknown Caller
  • Wild Honey
  • One Step Closer
  • Grace
  • Van Diemen’s Land
  • Trip Through Your Wires
  • Exit
  • Speed Of Life
  • Saturday Night
  • Boomerang II

While many of the songs on the list were deservedly low on streaming figures, a handful of songs surprised U2 fans. One person wrote: “I don’t know if it’s fair, but Some Days Are Better Than Others is one of my all-time favourite U2 songs.” Another agreed, replying: “That was the first on the list that I was like ‘WHAT?!’ Then I saw Wild Honey, Exit, and Trip Through Your Wires, and I was equally baffled. Especially Exit.”

A third wrote: “I almost spit out my tea when I saw it in the list. Such an amazing song, and one that plays in my head quite often. I’m out of action with a nasty cold right now while the weather is great outside, so some days are truly better than others…”

Others were stunned to see underrated B-sides on the list, with one fan calling the track an “amazing” piece of work from U2. They wrote: “Walk To The Water is an amazing B-side that I don’t think gets a ton of love outside of the fanbase. Not sure where it ranks in terms of streams, but it’s high on my personal list of most underrated.”

Another added: “Several of these are clunkers but for the fans a couple of deep cut gems. Personally, I like Elvis Presley and America, Some Days, Playboy, Sleep Like A Baby, Grace, Van Diemen’s Land and Exit. Not a bad list for the least popular songs in the catalogue.”

A third shared: “I really dig The Refugee, Unknown Caller, Trip Through Your Wires, Van Diemen’s Land, and Exit. It appears I have homework now because I don’t think I’ve even heard of the first two songs on the list.”
