The Rolling Stones enter ‘golden age’ with Foreign Tongues material, fans say

Fans of the legendary rock band The Rolling Stones believe the band has entered into a “golden age” of work with their upcoming album, Foreign Tongues.

While fans are in agreement on this increase in quality, the reason for it varies. Some believe the band has gone from strength to strength with the release of their new songs, while others have suggested it is the first decent material by the band in over two decades. Reappraisal for the band’s most recent song, In the Stars, has been shared to the r/RollingStones subreddit where the Mick Jagger-fronted band were praised for their latest works. In the Stars was released as the lead single to Foreign Tongues, which will be released on July 10. The song Rough and Twisted was released under the pseudonym The Cockroaches before an announcement of Foreign Tongues was made.

The two songs have since been hailed by listeners who believe it is some of the band’s strongest material in years. One fan wrote: “When it was first released, I thought it was just an okay song, but after many listens, I have to say it’s better than I expected. We’re so lucky to have a band that keeps releasing enjoyable music after all these years.”

Another agreed, adding: “I can’t stop listening to it, honestly. It won’t be in my top 10 Rolling Stones songs, but it is one of my favourite songs released in maybe 20 years!” A third shared: “I think it’s pretty strong. The weird doo doo doo shit threw me at first, but it’s really grown on me. Trying to stay away so I don’t overdo it before I get the album.”

One fan, while enjoying the song and new material from The Rolling Stones, suggested that In the Stars gives Jagger a license to be simpler with his songwriting. The listener wrote: “It works. Just as Mick always pushed The Rolling Stones to maintain contemporary influences, this track would only exist post-2000. It’s not The Rolling Stones stuck in a rut.

“My only criticism is that at some point Mick realised the new music was only so important, so the lyrics can just have a good idea and framework, but two verses will suffice. The pickup line in this song – I feel a heavy hand/Tangling with my plans – is solid but he hasn’t really *invested* into writing lyrics since his solo albums. Well, A Bigger Bang has Biggest Mistake which is about Jerry Hall leaving him, but that’s also twenty years ago…”

Another added: “I prefer it to Angry, it’s not an all-time classic by any means, but I bought the CD single and the two tracks are a decent sampler for the album. Will I still play it in years to come? Probably not much, but it’s still a decent enough song, so I am content with that.”

A third shared: “Yeah, and after having listened to Undercover and Dirty Work back to back, it shines even more. Yeesh. We are living in a Rolling Stones golden era compared to those stinkers. IMHO.”
