Noel Gallagher hits out at music legend and tells him to ‘get a job’ instead of ‘remastering’ his discography

A music legend has been criticised by Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher for “remastering” his discography constantly.

The Don’t Look Back in Anger singer hit out at the veteran performer, telling him to “get a job” instead of tinkering away with his greatest hits in the studio. Though the artist in question is one of Gallagher’s favourites, he appears keen to get the legendary Jimmy Page back on stage, as many fans are too. Led Zeppelin may have little in common with the musical style Oasis offered, but Gallagher, who says he received a copy of Led Zeppelin IV when he was just five years old, wants more from rock legend Page. Though he described Page as “fuckin’ brilliant,” it appears the recent actions of Page have done little to appease Gallagher.

He told Vogue in 2015: “Lyrically, I can look back from time to time, you can look back in a song, like ‘The Dying of the Light,’ for instance, you can take on a character in a song that’s looking back, but me personally, I’m already halfway through recording my next album. I mean, as much as I love Jimmy Page — and I fuckin’ love Jimmy Page, as a guitarist and a guy, he’s a fuckin’ brilliant, brilliant man — all he ever does is fuckin’ remaster Led Zeppelin records. D’you know what I mean? Fuck me! Get a job!”

The pair are reportedly friends, with Gallagher poking fun at the Led Zeppelin legend from time to time in interviews. He once claimed Led Zeppelin is “more of a rock thing” when speaking with Matt Morgan in 2020, adding that “Pink Floyd, the songs are fucking great.”

Gallagher has been refreshingly honest with his musical takes in the last few years, once describing The Beach Boys as a “barbershop quartet”. He would later come around to liking the band’s music, but did poke fun at them on more than a few occasions.

He said: “Everything they do and everything they say – and that’s a joke by the way, no, I like American music. The Stooges were a great band, and The Doors, but they’re just not in the top thirteen.” The interviewer then shared he had bought Pet Sounds “at least twenty different times,” which stunned Gallagher.

The Oasis songwriter said: “Why? Don’t you think they’re the most overrated group of all time? The only reason that they are anyway successful is because they are next to The Beatles in alphabetical order and Paul McCartney likes them. That’s it. Barbershop quartet music. Fucking rubbish.”

While his opinion on The Beach Boys may cause controversy, Gallagher has since softened on his stance and later suggested a few songs from the band had finally clicked for him. Confirming he had been listening to Wilson and the gang more often during his chat with Morgan.

Gallagher said: “I’m not sure if I should say this, because I’ve spent a life, a musical life, dismissing this fucking group. In a sentence, ‘Not interested. Fucking dogshit. Not having it, not having.’

“I’ve started listening to, and actually enjoying. The Beach Boys.” Morgan, who says the band are “brilliant”, coaxed an agreement out of Gallagher, who said he was “starting to think they might be now.” Of the songs in The Beach Boys’ discography, Gallagher has narrowed it down to “about twelve tunes that I really fucking like”.
