Amy Winehouse and Prince’s collaboration hailed as ‘mesmerising’ moment in set featuring The Beatles and The Rolling Stones

A collaboration between veteran musicians Prince and Amy Winehouse has been hailed as a “mesmerising” on-stage moment.

The Back to Black sensation joined forces with the Purple Rain hitmaker for a staggering rendition of Love is a Losing Game. The performance, which took place on September 22, 2007, marked a phenomenal moment between the rock and roll legend and blues star. Winehouse would also perform with Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones as she rode the wave of a sensational album release. Members of the public were full of praise for the performance, with some of those lucky enough to attend saying it was a truly moving moment at the show.

One fan wrote: “Is it this one? It is such an amazingly soulful performance. Sometimes it gets me too emotional ….but heaven knows it’s beautiful each and every time.”

Another added: “Such a special moment in time!! I’ve only ever found this shaky footage of Prince / Amy Winehouse from that afterparty night. Just wondering if anyone has or knows of a better quality video of this version of Love Is A Losing Game?” The fan searching out a better version of the performance may be in luck, as a video of the duet has since been shared to YouTube.

There, fans hailed the duo for their “mesmerising” performance. One listener wrote: “Prince played guitar like Amy sang. Improvisatory, never the same way twice and absolutely bleeding with raw emotion. Mesmerising.” Another added: “Prince was a MASTER guitarist and never got enough accolades for his talent!”

A third wrote: “I am a hardcore Prince fan and love Amy to bits. Didn’t think a recording of this existed, so thankful it does. Amy’s voice was a rare gem gone too soon.” The performance at London’s indigO2 venue featured covers of Winehouse’s work, as well as The Beatles and a ten-song encore from Prince.
