Fans of the legendary rock band The Rolling Stones have shared which Foreign Tongues song they’re most excited to hear.
The Mick Jagger-fronted group has so far released two songs from the new album, with both Rough and Twisted and In the Stars out now. The fourteen-track album will feature work from Paul McCartney, The Cure‘s Robert Smith, and one of the final session appearances of the band’s late drummer, Charlie Watts. Fans are rightly excited by the upcoming album and believe The Rolling Stones could have another hit on their hands, three years on from the release of Hackney Diamonds. A tracklist breakdown shared to the r/RollingStones subreddit saw fans share which songs they were most excited by ahead of the album’s release in July.
One fan singled out the Amy Winehouse cover featured on the album, writing: “Oh man, I am really looking forward to hearing their take on You Know I’m No Good.” Another agreed, adding: “My favourite Amy Winehouse song, he [Jagger] has big shoes to fill.” A third added: “Hopefully, it still has a similar feel to the original.”
Others were more excited for the cover of Chuck Berry listed on the album tracklist. The Rolling Stones previously performed Beautiful Delilah in 1964, and fans were stunned to see it appear on the tracklist for Foreign Tongues.
One wrote: “I loved their ‘64 rendition of Beautiful Delilah! can’t wait to listen to the new version.” Another added: “Crazy that they have such a history. ‘Hey, remember that Chuck Berry song we did like, 62 years ago…'” A third noted: “Can’t remember the last time they covered Chuck Berry.”
Some fans were less-than hopeful for the state of the album. One detractor wrote: “Did they run out of ideas? Why the need for two covers?
And why does In the Stars sound exactly the same as Doom and Gloom?”
Fans of the band were recently left stumped by the music video to In The Stars, which featured a de-aged verison of Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood.
One fan wrote: “It’s a little Uncanny Valley, but fuck it — it’s a lot of fun! I like the little callbacks they snuck in. Spot them if you can.” Another agreed with the quality of the video, adding: “I like it. It’s like they took the idea of the “live” billboards from the Angry video and cranked it up. Wood looked the best out of the three Stones, in my opinion. The only complaint is that I wish the three actual Stones could have shown up too.”
A third shared that they enjoyed the video but were sad to see drummer Charlie Watts omitted, considering the volume of easter eggs planted in the video. They wrote: “I loved the video although not sure it needed to have so many extras.
“And I know Charlie isn’t on the song, but why couldn’t they put young him in as the main drummer, considering it’s a throwback to the young band. Did we really need 100 random people drumming?”
