Bruce Springsteen was spotted snubbing a Republican Party member who served as the governor of New Jersey during The Boss’ latest show.
Springsteen has been on tour since April on the Land of Hope and Dreams tour, with a show last night at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, marking a hometown celebration for the veteran songwriter. Springsteen has featured covers of The Clash and Bob Dylan during this tour, and last night (May 14) was no different. Also featured were hits like Murder Incorporated and Darkness on the Edge of Town. But during a performance of Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Springsteen’s walk through the crowd was nearly scuppered by an ex-Governor of New Jersey standing in the crowd.
Chris Christie, a Republican Party member who served New Jersey from 2010 to 2018, was spotted and filmed by attendees. Not only did Springsteen snub the 2024 Republican Party presidential candidate, but Christie was also seen dancing to Murder Incorporated earlier in the show.
A fan took to X and wrote: “HAHAHA Bruce Springsteen WAS NOT HAVING IT with Chris Christie. THE SNUB!” Another added: “It looks like Bruce thought he was just a guy showing him which direction to go.”
A third wrote: “Possible but he only gave a high five to one fan and kept his eyes on the floor as not to fuck up but I wouldn’t put it past if he meant it.”
A separate video of Springsteen’s performance was also shared to X, with Christie spotted dancing along to Murder Incorporated. The user wrote: “If you’ve ever wanted to watch Chris Christie dance to Bruce Springsteen singing Murder Incorporated… today is your lucky day.”
Christie, a noted megafan of The Boss, once suggested the pair were friends but that their friendship had fizzled out. But at a more recent show, Springsteen did, allegedly, spot the former Governor and gave him a nod. Christie told The Hill back in 2023: “Because Bruce is obviously a pretty liberal Democrat. I’m a conservative Republican. But we both are Jersey guys, and we grew up, and we’ve had ups and downs in our relationship.
“My wife and I and my oldest son were in the pit in front of the stage with a whole bunch of other people. I thought Bruce saw me during the show. And my wife thought I was crazy, ‘Oh yeah sure, Bruce smiled and waved to you.’
“We get in the car, we’re driving back to New Jersey, my cell phone rings at 11:45 at night. So I answered the phone and I said, ‘Chris Christie,’ and he said, ‘Gov., it’s Bruce.’ And he said, ‘I saw you in the pit tonight’. And I went to my wife. I go, ‘I told you. I told you he saw me!'”
It did not appear that Springsteen acknowledged Christie in the video posted to X. A full setlist for the Barclays Centre performance can be found below.
