Bruce Springsteen setlist omits one song as fans ask for it to be added

Bruce Springsteen fans are hoping a fitting song is added to the Land of Hope and Dreams tour before the end of the North American leg.

The Boss has been touring across the country since April, and while fans are thrilled with the inclusion of Clampdown, The Ghost of Tom Joad, and Streets of Minneapolis, they are calling out for one more song to be added to the setlist. Springsteen has made a handful of changes from night to night, though the bulk of his set on the Land of Hope and Dreams tour has remained the same. A post to the r/BruceSpringsteen subreddit saw fans share their thoughts on what should be added to the show.

One fan wrote: “No Gypsy Biker? I haven’t really paid too much attention to the setlists, but I just looked through them so far, and how has Gypsy Biker not been played? I mean, it’s so on theme with the tour.” Other fans have agreed that Gypsy Biker, which featured on Springsteen’s Magic album, should be included on the setlist.

Another fan replied: “Don’t think Gypsy Biker has been played since the Working on a Dream tour, and certainly not regularly since Magic tour, so not too surprised it hasn’t been put in the setlist, although I do agree it fits the theme. A lot of songs in that similar vein would fit really nicely. Souls of the Departed, Devils and Dust, Gypsy Biker, even The Wall.”

A third offered a collection of alternate songs that could have been included on the Land of Hope and Dreams tour. They wrote: “A lot of great songs fit the theme of the tour – Livin’ in the Future, Magic, Radio Nowhere, World’s Apart (WHERE IS THIS ONEEE), Souls of the Departed, Shackled and Drawn, Jack of all Trades, Devils and Dust, Seeds, Straight Time, Across the Border, We Are Alive, We Take Care of Our Own, Working on a Dream, Rainmaker (played in the European version of this tour last summer), et al.

“Point is – he’s got a lot of fuckin music from the many decades he’s written. The songs he’s picked to curate this message are strong, specific, and there’s enough lighter stuff mixed in (Two Hearts, Out in the Street, Dancing in the Dark, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, etc) as to never get to stuck in the darkness and still bring some hope and joy, so they can’t be taken out to make room for more of the more gut wrenching thematic material.

“I think it’s a smartly curated list he’s got and a really strong tour. Also, he’s 76, and most of the band are around thereabouts too, and this tour was put together with very little prep time.”

One user went on to call the veteran performer “Bruce SAMEsteen”, despite the ongoing variety of his setlist from night to night. Springsteen’s setlist from the start of the tour in Minneapolis included a cover of Prince’s Purple Rain, while a homecoming show in New Jersey featured a cover of The Clash’s Clampdown.
