Paul McCartney fans split on The Boys of Dungeon Lane title as Beatles legend set to release new music

Fans of the veteran songwriter Paul McCartney believe a new album announcement is imminent.

The Beatles and Wings member has hinted heavily over the last few weeks that new material will be released later this year, and fans believe The Boys of Dungeon Lane could be the first we see of new McCartney material. Whether it is the title of a new album or a lead single is yet to be revealed, but fans have speculated it is more likely the latter. Speculation is rampant on the r/PaulMcCartney Reddit page, with long-term fans wondering when the new album will be formally announced, and whether The Boys of Dungeon Lane will be a single, or the title of the long-awaited McCartney project.

One fan wrote: “Thinking more about this whole situation, wasn’t it previously made pretty clear that Paul himself was doing the album cover and not his nephew? I still think The Boys of Dungeon Lane is probably a song on the album, but maybe it’ll be a pre-release single with artwork from Paul’s nephew? That would seem to clear up most of the loose ends on this whole (already weird) situation.”

Another fan added: “Isn’t it possible that his nephew made this kind of ‘logo/badge’, whatever it is, for the album title? That wouldn’t exclude the possibility that the cover art itself belongs to Paul. Think of the Egypt Station cover and the name badge.”

A third wrote: “I really like that as an album name, assuming that’s for sure what it’s going to be called. Great name.” Some were less than convinced by the naming of the new project from McCartney, though.

One wrote: “Dear God, please no. The name within itself sucks (or at least needs some time to grow on me), but if that’s the artwork, it’s over, probably his worst artwork. He spent so much time on that?! I really hope all this bird stuff is more in line with what he’s got planned than this.”

Another fan replied: “The album cover never matters to how an album sounds. Just look at Cloud 9.” A third wrote: “The title will become good/bad depending on the content of the album. Chaos and Creation is a pretty crappy, clunky title, in my opinion, with a similarly nostalgic feel and cover art, but the album was so good that it ended up working (or at least not sinking the album).”

Details of the upcoming project are limited, but McCartney has confirmed a few details to those on his mailing list. McCartney’s social media profiles were updated earlier this month with an emoji of a blackbird, with some fans believing this is a sign of new material on the way.
