A collaboration between The Rolling Stones and Amy Winehouse has been hailed as a live moment of “pure class” by viewers.
The Mick Jagger-fronted group were joined on stage by the Back to Black hitmaker at the Isle of Wight Festival in 2007. Their performance of Ain’t Too Proud to Beg was received well by the audience, with many in the comments saying Winehouse’s voice is a staggering addition to The Rolling Stones‘ performance. Paolo Nutini would also join the band on stage later in the set, but it’s the Winehouse collaboration that people have praised most of all. An upload of the performance to YouTube garnered plenty of praise for both Jagger and Winehouse, with the duo’s cover of The Temptations’ hit rapturously received by the Isle of Wight Festival crowd. Some were surprised at how well Jagger was moving around on stage as the collaboration went on.
One person wrote: “She looks good as it gets here, but Mick moves may years younger.” Another added: “And she’s so cool, like, ‘Yea I sing with Mick all the time!’ Miss that girl.” A third viewer added that Winehouse made for a “wonderful addition” to The Rolling Stones’ cover of The Temptations.
They wrote: “Brilliant. As a teenager of the ’60s, I grew up with The Rollng Stones, and they are pure class, Amy is a wonderful addition.” Others were full of praise for Winehouse matching the spirit and quality of The Rolling Stones.
One person shared: “It strikes me that if ever there was a girl that could have been a Rolling Stone, then that girl was Amy… and only Amy!” Another added: “I have to admit I wasn’t much of an Amy Winehouse fan, but after seeing this I have certainly changed my tune!… A tragedy that she is no longer with us!”
