Bob Dylan Bootleg Series Vol. 18 confirmed as Through The Open Window 1956-1963 set for October release

Another entry into The Bootleg Series from Bob Dylan‘s team will chart his songwriting and performances from 1956 to 1963.

The Bootleg Series Vol. 18: Through the Open Window will be released on October 31 in vinyl and CD formats. Slight information on the package was leaked earlier this year, with the album image seen weeks in advance of a formal album cover. Dylan’s team will formally announce news of the release in the coming days, but a streaming service listing of the album has left keen fans with a list of songs to expect from the new entry. Classics from The Gaslight Cafe, Carnegie Chapter Hall, and early years songs from the vault are to be released. A handful of songs featured on the set have since been released to Spotify. Further details of format releases and extended vinyl runs featuring all songs have not been announced yet.

An official statement from Dylan’s team reads: “Through The Open Window tells the story of Dylan’s emergence and maturation as a songwriter and performer, from Minnesota to the Greenwich Village bohemia in the early 1960s.

“Arriving amidst a global resurgence in appreciation for Dylan, the collection includes rare Columbia Records outtakes, recordings made at club dates, in tiny informal gatherings, in friends’ apartments, and at jam sessions in long-gone musicians’ hangouts. Many of the recordings are exceedingly rare; others have never been presented in any form.

“The box set is a unique account of Dylan’s early years, when he honed his talent, and transformed traditional folk songs and lyric sketches into some of his greatest and most enduring songs, including Blowin’ in the Wind and The Times They Are A-Changin’.

“It concludes with a previously unreleased recording, in its entirety, of Dylan’s landmark concert at Carnegie Hall on October 26, 1963. A culmination of Dylan’s exceptional early rise, that concert also marked the end of the beginning of Dylan’s long career.”

A total of 165 songs will be included in the package, with a “highlights” version featured on Spotify. Both tracklists can be found below, with the highlights listing first, followed by the full 165-song set.
