Radiohead fans who successfully purchased tickets to the band’s upcoming show were left furious as refunds were suddenly issued.
Some fans had their tickets taken back and were told refunds were on the way, leaving many confused. Others who have not yet received an email saying their tickets are cancelled are now worried they too will be sent a dreaded refund message. A post to the r/Radiohead subreddit saw some fans who made it through the extra steps of the ticket sale lottery, and successfully bought tickets, say their passes to the show were now void. One furious fan wrote: “Fuck this whole fucking process. No Waste sale. Stupid code registration that does NOTHING to prioritise fans. AXS crashing and glitching all morning.
“Still manage to get tix somehow? NOW THEY’RE CANCELLED. I’m done. Fuck this whole process. And fuck artists who think ANY of these companies give even half a shit about real fans. THIS IS EXACTLY WHY WE HAD WASTE PRESALES BEFORE. To say I’m livid is the understatement of the year.” The fan’s rage was reasonable, and a copy of the AXS email can be found below.
It reads: “Please be advised that we recently reviewed your ticket purhcase for Radiohead at The O2 on our site. Upon review of your order, we were unable to verify aspects of the transaction, and thus the order was cancelled.
“A full refund has been issued to the payment method originally used. Please alow 4-6 working days for this process.” Other fans who successfully bought tickets are now worried their tickets too shall be void ahead of the tour in November.
One person wrote: “I’ve got tickets – but I’m now going to be ridden with anxiety every time I open my inbox for the next two months.” Another replied: “Exactly, when do we know we’ll have tickets that won’t be cancelled? Some people are having to book flights, hotels, etc, this is the sorriest shit show I’ve ever seen.”
A third wrote: “That’s horrid. So worried now – we finally managed to get tickets after this morning’s utter bedlam and have booked hotels and flights so if I get this email I am going to go mental.”
Though Radiohead had formed a registration process which required a valid email address and phone number to be in with a chance of purchasing tickets, it seems some fans were still left short-changed by the process.
Others have sympathised with the person who purchased tickets, only to have them refunded. One person wrote: “Soul destroying is an understatement.” Another added: “Exact same thing happened to me! Got the code, did everything by the book, four tickets for the Tuesday show. My friends even booked their flights to London once I told them!”
It comes after some fans were desperately trying to find a way of receiving a code to the sale, with many trying to work out whether they would be in with a chance of seeing Radiohead return to the stage for the first time since 2018.
