A mash-up of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Radiohead has been hailed by Mac DeMarco fans as “hilarious”.
Attendees of DeMarco’s Lolla Chile set in 2018 believe the songwriter has “balls of steel” for blurring the two songs together. DeMarco does not sing during the performance but is behind a drumkit for the blur of Radiohead’s High and Dry and Under the Bridge by Red Hot Chili Peppers. It’s a wild and unexpected mash-up which features Joe McMurray on vocals. Their fourteen-song set in Santiago, Chile, is still celebrated by fans who took to the comments of a YouTube upload of their mash-up to heap praise onto the “hilarious” covers. One of the comments has higher praise than hilarity, though, saying the mash-up is an “underrated classic” from DeMarco.
A user commenting on the video of their Chile performance wrote: “Absolutely hilarious, this dude has balls of steel!” Another added: “An underrated classic, one of my favourite videos.” A third joked: “Imagine being the Red Hot Chili Peppers just chilling, and in the distance you hear this.”
Others believe this is the first time in years High and Dry has been performed at a festival. While it may not have been Radiohead performing the song, it’s close enough and rather brilliantly mixed into Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Under the Bridge. One fan wrote: “High and Dry first time played live at a big festival in years.”
Another added: “The piano part in Under The Bridge is legitimately awesome.” It’s not just fans who were thrilled by the performance but DeMarco, too, who looks as though he is having the time of his life behind the drumkit. A fan wrote: “Mac’s face during this is priceless.”
Another wrote: “I love when they full stupid like that, so much fun, wish I was in Chile.” A third agreed, adding: “Looks like they’re having a blast man.” A full setlist for the show can be found below, including a video of the Radiohead and Red Hot Chili Peppers crossover.

It’s not the last time DeMarco and his band would perform High and Dry by Radiohead, either. He last performed the song as part of a show in Germany during 2018. It featured amid a huge setlist of covers, with DeMarco and the band covering the likes of Rage Against the Machine, Grateful Dead, and Black Sabbath. Their performance of High and Dry was segued into Under the Bridge just like their Chile performance, which can be seen below.
