What Bob Dylan performed on first summer show of Outlaw Music Festival tour

The first June performance from Bob Dylan took place last night (June 20), with the veteran songwriter providing a range of his greatest hits.

Performing on a bill alongside Willie Nelson, Dylan’s performance at the Pine Knob Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan, marks his first gig of the month. Further dates are planned for this month, and it is not yet known what the Highway 61 Revisited songwriter will play. Dylan did provide fans with some cover songs, deep cuts, and a litany of all-time great tracks at his recent show. Songs from classic Dylan albums Time Out of Mind and Blood on the Tracks featured alongside performances of music from lesser-loved albums like Under the Red Sky and Together Through Life.

The performance in Clarkson, Missouri, marks the first performance from Dylan since May 25, and the first full set since May 24. A show at The Gorge Amphitheatre was cut short due to high winds. A full setlist from Dylan’s June 20 show can be found below.

September 19 is currently the final date on the announced tour schedule for Dylan, though it is not yet known whether he will return with a further tour. Rough and Rowdy Ways is celebrating five years since its release, an album which very nearly reunited Dylan with The Band’s Robbie Robertson.

Cult Following previously reported that Robertson had been offered a spot on guitar in the studio, though he had to turn it down. He told Rolling Stone Music Now: “I was just slammed with work. I said, ‘Right now, I’m in the middle of this stuff,’ and I think that he just felt like it was cooked and he needed to bring it out of the oven. So he went in and recorded this album.

“The Band’s guitarist did at least share his thoughts on Rough and Rowdy Ways, namely Murder Most Foul, which was read to Robertson over the phone by Dylan. Robertson recalled: “I thought, this is just terrific writing and something that only Bob could do.

“And I would have loved for us to work together on that. But I just couldn’t do it at that time… I was gonna check in with him and just say, ‘God, I’m sorry I wasn’t available then, but let’s see if we can cause some trouble down the line.’”

Dylan has not yet released a new studio album, and Robertson passed away in 2023 at the age of 80.

    • Apparently Lucinda Williams will be with him in Maine, as well.
I’m seeing him in Charlotte with my daughter. I saw him 50 years ago this summer in St. Pete with Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez. Enjoy your time at the show.
