Arctic Monkeys fans wonder why band has not issued any anniversary releases

Fans of indie rock heroes Arctic Monkeys are wondering why the band are yet to re-release any albums to celebrate release anniversaries.

No anniversary releases of their discography have yet to be announced, with fans noting it will be twenty years since their debut album, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not, released. AM also celebrated its ten-year anniversary two years ago in 2023, though no re-release of the album was announced at the time. Fans on the r/ArcticMonkeys subreddit were left wondering why the band had yet to issue any re-releases of their work to celebrate their anniversaries. One user asked: “Is there a specific reason why Arctic Monkeys haven’t released a big box set or compilation of all of their singles?

“Considering they have more of them than their entire run of albums. I mean, it kind of just seems like a no-brainer to me. They have this vast, deep cut collection of EPs with great songs, with their own artwork, and have just as much care put into them as the actual albums. They’ve been under the same record label, Donino, for their entire career, so as far as I’m concerned, there wouldn’t be any label trouble.

“I don’t know if this has been pitched at all by any of the band members, but it would seriously be one of the coolest things ever and I’m curious if there’s a specific reason as to why they haven’t done it yet or that they just haven’t done it yet because they haven’t thought of it.”

Fans were left curious too as to why the band had not reissued any of their earlier materials, including deep cuts from the Richard Hawley-featuring Death Ramps, which led to the creation of B-side, Black Treacle.

Some have suggested the band has not issued any anniversary pieces as there is no need to do so. One user wrote: “Because most bands do that as a money grab and they probably don’t feel it’s necessary or needed.”

Another added: “Those guys are set up well to retire, and live comfortably. I don’t think being money hungry and doing all these specials isn’t really necessary. Domino is making millions, they’re making millions. All is good for all parties.

“I wish they released a 10 year AM rerelease with an AM era concert attached and was bummed they didn’t but they’re just not that kind of band and I respect them for it.” A third wrote: “They seem to have zero interest in milking their discography.

“They could capitalise on their catalogue if they wanted to, especially now that their pre-Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino music is effortlessly smashing on streaming, but I don’t think they will unless pressured by the label.”
