Bruce Springsteen fans still hopeful for Electric Nebraska after Tracks II announcement

Bruce Springsteen fans remain hopeful of a rumoured Electric Nebraska release after the announcement of Tracks II: The Lost Albums.

Though seven unreleased albums will feature on the compilation, there was no mention of an alternate version of Springsteen‘s Nebraska. It is believed The Boss recorded his 1982 album with The E Street Band, but opted for solo, acoustic instrumental work afterwards, which is what was released. Fans are hopeful of an Electric Nebraska release, with some taking to the r/BruceSpringsteen subreddit and asking how likely it is that the album would see the light of day. One user wrote: “Do you think we will ever get Electric Nebraska?

“I just thought it might be coming out since the movie coming out will be about him recording Nebraska, don’t get me wrong I enjoy the album but I would rather hear it with the band. His best albums are with The E street Band or at least session musicians.” Some are fairly hopeful of hearing the album, but fans may need to wait a little longer for its release.

One user suggested: “If we do, it will be tied to the movie. Could be next year’s release.” Another added: “This is the one I’d love to hear. Nebraska’s my favorite Springsteen album, and I think the spare demo album that was released is perfect frankly. But I’d also love the alternative full band treatment.”

Some have suggested it may be an unnecessary release, though, and is not that much of a “mystery” when it comes to figuring out what it would sound like. One user asked: “Why does anyone want it? Sonically, it would be similar to Born in the U.S.A., and he’s played most of the songs electric in his live shows. Doesn’t seem to be much mystery in what it would be like.”

Another added: “Springsteen announces the boxed set release of about seven albums and this guy here is asking for one more.” A third wrote: “Born in the U.S.A. is the closest you’ll get to Electric Nebraska. Most of the band has even agreed that there’s not much there on it, even Stevie.”

Even still, some want to hear the legendary Electric Nebraska. One user wrote: “Personally, I want to hear it because it’s a piece of Springsteen (and rock) history, and I love all the songs on that album. It’s one of my favourites, and I’m curious how it all came together and why they decided not to put out.

“If the alternative is to never hear it, as has always been the case, versus potentially hearing it, why would I not want to hear it? I’d be delighted!”
