Bruce Springsteen fans decide on which concert was the ‘best’ from the Born to Run tour

Fans of the album Born to Run are trying to decide which Bruce Springsteen performance from that tour is the best of all.

With Born to Run celebrating fifty years since its release this year, fans took the anniversary as a chance to share their memories from the tour. A fan posting to r/BruceSpringsteen asked: “What’s the best concert from the Born to Run tour? This year Born to Run is gonna celebrate fifty years, on August 25. But what do you think Springsteen is going to release? Outtakes from the album plus a mythical concert? We have a thirtieth anniversary boxset, but without outtakes. What is, for you, the best concert from this tour? What do you think could be released to commemorate the album?”

Fans were split on what to expect from the fiftieth anniversary of Born to Run, though a date Springsteen played in Hammersmith, London, springs to mind for some. One fan wrote: “24/11/1975 is right up there. I know the earlier Hammersmith night gets the hype since it got the film release, but this gig is bang on.”

Another agreed with the Hammersmith show suggestion and say it marks a “pre-album curio” which would no doubt satisfy fans of The Boss. They wrote: “Yeah, it’s gotta be one of the two Hammersmith shows. The Main Point is a neat pre-album curio from that year… but the band sounds so much tighter and efficient when they went overseas.”

Those who have listened to the Hammersmith shows have since called them “next level” and up there with some of the best performances Springsteen has given. One wrote: “Those Hammersmith shows were pretty next level. She’s the One is my fave.”

Another user suggested a performance at Widener University could be a solid choice for Born to Run anniversary celebrations. They wrote: “The band played Widener University in Chester, Pa before the album release, as well. My uncle said that was his personal highlight.

“I’ve only seen bits, apparently it was the premier of Thunder Road (not Wings for Wheels)? As my uncle says, the band came out to start the first set all dressed in black and came back to the stage after intermission all dressed in white. I think his memory is wrong, though.”

Others suggested releasing the “birthday show” as it marks one of the more listened to bootlegs from the Born to Run tour. They wrote: “Birthday show. 23/9/1975. 26th Birthday from Ann Arbor Michigan. It’s my most listened to bootleg from that tour along with the 24/11/1975 show from London. 3/12/75 Boston is a banger as well for a Christmas feel.”
