Johnny Cash fans are remembering the hilarious moment and fellow music legend Elton John switched costumes on an episode of Saturday Night Live.
The Man in Black and The Pinball Wizard found the time to switch clothes during a 1982 episode of the show, where Cash hosted and John was the musical guest. Fans of both artists are sharing the costumes in a series of Reddit posts, with one user taking to r/musicmemes and highlighting the contrast in performing attire. Fans loved the choice made by Cash and John, with the latter donning a black leather jacket and cowboy hat. Cash, on the other hand, donned the feathery and golden attire John had been wearing. The hilarious moment has been praised by viewers, who dubbed Cash a “legend”.
One user wrote: “Johnny gave zero fucks about what people thought.” Another dubbed him the “original punk rocker.” A third added: “He had a great sense of humor too. There’s footage of Johnny impersonating Elvis on stage, with like super floppy hair, doing the dance moves — it’s pretty great.”
A separate thread posted to r/altcountry saw fans share their thoughts on “music hero” Cash. One wrote: “Johnny Cash was my first music hero. Somewhere there is a video of me as a six-year-old with a broom, playing along to I Walk The Line. He is still a music hero to me.”

Speaking to the camera in John’s costume, Cash told viewers: “You can’t work with a guy like Elton John without having his showmanship flash rub off on you so Elton, I hope you don’t mind but I took the liberty of borrowing these threads.” John was then introduced, where he was seen wearing a black cowboy hat and large leather jacket.
