Fans still hopeful for Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney collaboration as The Beatles member has ‘sneaky feeling’

Fans of Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney remain hopeful of the pair working together after The Beatles legend shared he wanted to work with Dylan.

In a Reddit AMA, McCartney confirmed his hopes of working with Mr. Tambourine Man songwriter Dylan, and says he always had a “sneaky feeling” the pair would work together in the studio. McCartney, who has worked with Dylan collaborators like Jeff Lynne and fellow Beatles member George Harrison, has often cited Dylan as a dream collaboration. In a post four years ago, McCartney again said he wished to work with the legendary songwriter, though a piece of work between the pair has yet to come to light. He was asked in an AMA on Reddit: “If you could collab with any musician in the future, who would it be?”

He responded: “I’ve always had a sneaky feeling to collaborate with Bob Dylan, but it’s never happened. It’s intriguing, but…” Fans sounded relatively excited by the Dylan and McCartney pairing, and joked the two could make an exceptional Christmas song.

One user wrote: “Imagine the banger of a Christmas song that would be.” Another added: “Bob with Paul and Ringo would have boomers losing their minds and collective savings.” But some pointed out the collaboration was unlikely, especially given how often McCartney has declared his interest in working with Dylan.

One suggested: “Anyone who knows Dylan can tell you: the more you want to collaborate with him, the less likely it will happen.” Another claimed The Beatles and The Rolling Stones had previously refused to collaborate with Dylan. They wrote: “It’s annoying cause Dylan approached The Beatles and The Stones to make a record with all of them on it.

“This was back in ’69. It would have been the most significant musical document in western culture. Paul McCartney and Mick Jagger were the most opposed to the idea.” Another added: “I think given the state the Beatles were in at the time, Paul can be forgiven for not thinking it was a good decision.

“It was hard enough getting them to make an album with just the four of them at that point, and making an album with them contending further for album space with writer credits against The Stones and Dylan would have been a nightmare.”

McCartney has previously spoken about a potential collaboration with Dylan in 2008. He told Absolute Radio at the time: “Bob Dylan would be lovely [to collaborate with], because I admire him. And I was thinking the other day maybe David Byrne, because I like him too.”
