James Murphy confirms new LCD Soundsystem album is on the way – but band don’t know when

LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy has confirmed a new album by the band is in the works but has no idea when it will be ready.

A statement posted to LCD Soundsystem’s Facebook page confirmed they were recording for “what’s shaping up to be a new album” and released X-Ray Eyes as the lead single. But fans of the group, responsible for hits like All My Friends and Daft Punk is Playing at My House, may have a little while longer to wait for an album release.

Murphy took to the group’s Facebook page and confirmed a new album is on its way, writing: “So there’s a new LCD song now called X-Ray Eyes. It’s the first single of what’s shaping up to be a new album. Don’t ask me when that is, because we’re still working on it. But it feels very good to be putting out new music.”

Those who want to get their hands on a 12″ print of X-Ray Eyes can do so – but copies are limited for the time being. “We made a small run of silkscreened 12″s that will sell at the upcoming LA and NYC shows, and DFA will have a limited grip of them, but don’t freak out if you don’t get one because there will be a more readily available commercial release of the same record when we can get it together,” Murphy confirmed.

Though there is no confirmation on when a new album will be available, LCD Soundsystem frontman Murphy confirmed it is getting “closer and closer” to completion. He added: “But, no, there’s no finished LP yet. But when we’re not playing shows, it’s getting closer and closer to completion. So that’s the news. Anything else you hear is bullshit speculation.”

It comes after Primavera Sound Festival walked back an initial statement saying the group would be performing alongside the release of a new album. Their announcement read: “Almost twenty years after giving the world this dance-rock ode to friendship, the influential band led by James Murphy will come back to the festival (and with a new album!) to make it clear that, although they are an inherent part of our best memories, their time is always now.”

This has since been updated to the following: “We’re living the second era of LCD Soundsystem. In February 2011, at the end of the This is Happening tour, the Murphy-led dance-punk machine came to a halt after a historic farewell concert at Madison Square Garden. Five years later, in early 2016, LCD Soundsystem reformed to reclaim their title as the best live band in the world.”

LCD Soundsystem’s first single, X-Ray Eyes, was described as a departure from their usual sound.
