Timothée Chalamet ‘doesn’t look cold enough’ in Bob Dylan biopic ‘A Complete Unknown’ still

A new still from the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown has left fans mocking the Timothée Chalamet-led film as he “doesn’t look cold enough”.

Pictured alongside co-star Elle Fanning, the pair recreated the cover of The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan in a recently released photo. The James Mangold-directed feature is filming in New Jersey, with the stars recently seen in Newark. Social media users were less than impressed with the “disappointing” recreation and said part of the problem is an unsuccessful display of frigid temperatures.

One Twitter/X user wrote: “He doesn’t look cold enough.” Another added: “Man the costuming for this movie is disappointing. looks really off.” Others were more critical of the image overall as Chalament and Fanning were seen replicating the cover of the classic 1963 record. “It looks like AI made it,” one wrote.

Another fan alleged: “One gets the sense that no one involved on this production can read the message behind everything Dylan does.” A Complete Unknown is set to showcase Dylan’s rise to fame and subsequent controversy when he introduced electric guitar to his live performances. Elijah Wald’s 2015 book, Dylan Goes Electric! formed the base of the feature which was announced by Mangold in January 2020.

Chalamet, who will star in the project as Dylan, is also set to produce. He stars alongside Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez, Elle Fanning as Sylvie Russo and Edward Norton as Pete Seeger.

Norton’s appearance in costume caused ripples online as Reddit users praised the casting and hoped the Fight Club and Moonrise Kingdom star would bring his love for the era to the film. One wrote: “Good casting. I hope this movie doesn’t suck.” A reply to this comment read: “Norton seems pretty well educated on this era and respectful of Dylan overall. His involvement gives me further confidence.”

A release date has not yet been announced for A Complete Unknown though filming began on March 16. Filming had been postponed in July due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Chalamet previously revealed he had heard twelve hours of unreleased Dylan material ahead of filming, with the Dune star confirming longtime Dylan manager Jeff Rosen had sent him hours of material.

Chalamet said: “This might earn the ire and wrath of a lot of Bob fans, rightfully. But he sent me like a 12-hour playlist of unreleased Bob stuff from like 1959 to ’64. I feel like I’m holding onto gold or something.”
