The Lubber Fiend aiming for £5,000 fundraising goal to shore up building work

Independent venue The Lubber Fiend is hoping to raise £5,000 through a fundraiser to finish up its building work.

The Newcastle-based venue has turned to the public for support in reaching the financial goal which would see repair work carried out at the establishment.

The Lubber Fiend, which has played host to the likes of Muckle, Debmaster and Richard Dawson, is hoping to repair everything from windows to ventilation after taking “a fair amount of punishment” over the last eight months.

A fundraiser has since been set up, with organiser Tom Hopkin asking those “passionate people” that have filed into the venue over the past eighteen months to offer up a donation if they can.

Hopkin wrote: “Last year we asked for your support to help us renovate and open a new DIY venue in Newcastle upon Tyne.

“Over the past 18 months, a tangible community of passionate people has shaped the venue and organisation.

“Whether it’s the bands that play, DJs in the Slack’s studio, audiences, visitors or volunteers, each and every person has contributed to this space.

“We are asking for your help. The building and the equipment have taken a fair amount of punishment over the past 8 months.

“Not only that, there are improvements we hoped to make before opening that we simply could not afford even to start.”

Listed improvements to the building, should the fundraiser hit its goal of £5,000 included “new window” a “ventilation system” as well as “seating and cover for the smoking area”.

Donations can be made to the fundraiser here. Long live the Lubber.
