The rising worry of pandemics spreading across the globe and the self-isolation many of us find ourselves in has led to a few issues outside of the general fear we may possess. What is there to do with all of this free time? The events over the next few months that we were looking forward to are looking less and less likely. Concerts, live events, cinemas and pubs are all closing and, for the next few months, people will be wondering what exactly they can do with themselves.
But fear not, because for every depressing, dangerous situation, there is always a glimmer of light. A small shroud of hope among a sea of frighteningly upsetting events. We’ve listed some of our highlights below, events, ideas and plans you may not have thought of, which you can enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
FRANK TURNER LIVE SET – MARCH 17

Heading to a gig right now seems nigh on impossible. The almighty being that controls the world seemingly deciding that my first and only concert (Elvis Costello and The Imposters) is enough live music for my lifetime, has cancelled just about every music festival, upcoming tour and gig available. Except for one. Frank Turner, an indie musician with quite an impressive following and an even more impressive setlist of songs will be livestreaming three sets worth of live music on Facebook.
Turner and guests including Micah Schnabel, Jess Guise and Vanessa Jean Speckman go live tomorrow at 8.30pm U.K. time. (East Coast, 4.30pm, West Coast 1.30pm, Australia 7.30am.) I’ve been listening to a fair bit of Frank Turner recently on the advice and recommendation of a friend, and I have to say he’s quite the impressive musician. If you’re looking for some quality music that you can enjoy right from the comfort of your own home, then you can’t go wrong with a free Frank Turner livestream.
ROOSTER TEETH’S FREE LIVESTREAM

Content creators Rooster Teeth have announced that, in light of the pandemic, their live feed of podcast recording would be free and the chat would be open to the public. If you’re feeling a tad isolated and need some quality content with a warm audience of fans, then there’s no better place to go than with Rooster Teeth‘s live content.
To give a bit of background to those that may not know what Rooster Teeth does, they’ve been providing quality video game and movie related content for the better part of two decades now. Some may know them for Red vs. Blue, other for RWBY, whatever the case, they’re excellent individuals who have aspired for some great content and hit all the right notes along the way. I’d highly recommend their podcasts, and the fact that they’re now livestreaming it free with an audience will add that ever needed community aspect.

THE JACKBOX PARTY PACK

We’ve got a little bit for everything, and for those wanting to play a few rounds of the very fun party game The Jackbox Party Pack then you’re in for a treat. Most Twitch streamers provide room codes for games when they livestream on the platform, leaving you free to participate alongside the player. Party games are an essential amount of fun, and that group activity isn’t lost on The Jackbox Party Pack.
Get a good enough group together and there’s genuinely hours of fun to be had with this game. Creators of the series, Jackbox, even host their own game every Thursday. You can find more information with how to get up and running with that here.
PRODUCTIVITY IS KEY
Now, if anything, is the time to bust out that big pile of work or project you’ve yet to start working on. There’ s no better way to take your mind off of worries in the news than by diving headfirst into a brand new project or a pesky bit of work. You’ll be being productive and offering yourself a chance to get ahead in either work or in your respective career. I myself have started a new project, keeping a balance between my University work, commitments to review and article work, alongside finding the time to read more.
Start up a new hobby. Read that book you’ve always wanted to. It doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom, and something new might be just what you need to take your mind off of everything. Find a group online that will stream a film together, they’re easier to find than you’d think on platforms like Discord and Facebook. Isolation can be a pretty lonely time, some (myself included) will thrive on this time to be alone, others may struggle greatly with facing up to the fact that they’ll be unable to socialise. With that in mind, keep your eyes peeled for future events available to you online, and also articles published here.
If we catch wind of anything going on, we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
